Systematic review supports using the herb Maca for sexual function

October 07, 2010

Maca is a plant in the cabbage family (Brassica or mustard family) that grows in the Andes Mountains of South America between 12,000 and 13,500 feet. Preparations of Maca are reported to improve sexual function. Researchers scoured 17 databases for research up to April 10th 2010, proving or disproving the herbs effectiveness.

Two randomized clinical trials show that Maca had a significant effect on improving sexual desire and reversing sexual dysfunction in healthy menopausal women or healthy adult men. IN another randomized clinical trial Maca significantly improved erectile dysfunction. The research is published in the August 6th, 2010 issue of the journal BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
