Indole-3-carbinol and Sulforaphane, both of which come from cabbage vegetables, inhibit the growth of cancer cell lines and cause their destruction in laboratory studies. Indole-3-Carbinol slows the growth and Sulforaphane causes the death of these cells. This study was carried out to see if their ability to fight colon cancer is improved when both constituents are used together.
Several studies have documented the anticancer and chemopreventive efficacy of Grape Seed Extract (GSE) against various cancers including prostate cancer. GSE is a complex mixture of a group of powerful polyphenols and a number of them have activity against prostate cancer according to this new analysis that separated these polyphenols and measured their individual abilities to inhibit the growth of or ultimately destroy prostate cancer cells (of course many times its not just the individual effects of food ingredients but also the specific mix found in nature that gives them so much anti-disease clout; an effect known as synergism where one and one adds up to more than two). Three of the fourteen constituents measured individually had a powerful impact on destroying prostate cancer cells; this is not to say that the addition of the other eleven doesn't bolster their effects.
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that affects and disfigures the skin. In this disease skin cells are created and grow in an out of control and rapid rate. This occurs because immune cells that normally fight infection instead trigger the release of immune system proteins that cause inflammation and overproduction of skin cells.
Researchers at the University of Warwick in England have found that the level of vitamin B1 in the blood of both type 1 and type 2 diabetics is 75% lower than normal. This lower level of B1 increases the fragility of blood vessels and it becomes easier for the elevated blood sugar to cause damage to blood vessels in the legs, kidneys, eyes, brain, and heart. The study performed on a pool of 74 diabetics is published in the current issue of the journal Diabetologia.
Almost one-million new cases of colon cancer are diagnosed globally each year with very close to 500,000 deaths annually. In this new study, scientists at the Medical University of South Carolina show that Green Tea may stop the growth of colon tumors in their infancy according to the results of their animal study. However, drinking normal amounts of brewed green tea is not likely to inhibit the progress of any large polyps or large existing cancers that occur before tea administration.
