The muscle Perna canaliculus contains healthy fats known as omega-3 fatty acids that have been shown to improve inflammation in the lungs, digestive tract, and joints. In laboratory tests Perna inhibits the COX enzymes. The effects on the COX-2 enzyme have been shown to be much more powerful than other omega-3 fatty acids.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the developed world and is increasing in incidence in the developing world. Its long latency and geographical variation (some populations are less prone to dying from it) suggest the possibility of prevention or postponement by dietary modification. In a case control study 130 prostate cancer patients were compared to 274 hospital controls.

Cardiovascular researchers at UC Davis School of Medicine show that Grape Seed Extract lowers blood pressure in patients with the disastrous cluster of conditions known as metabolic syndrome. Patients with this condition have high cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, diabetes or Prediabetes, and are overweight. In the one-month study 24 male and female patients with metabolic syndrome were split into 3 groups.

In two studies that included 198 participants with anxiety, patients were given either Passion Flower or a benzodiazepine drug. Drugs in the benzodiazepine family include Valium, Librium, and Xanax. It was found that the activity of Passionflower was similar to the drugs in regards to alleviating anxiety, but predictably caused less drowsiness.
