b>High Systolic Blood Pressure should be Treated In a pooled analysis of 1,064 studies done between 1996 and 2004 researchers say that elevated systolic blood pressure (the top reading greater than 160mmhg) should be treated especially with calcium channel blocking agents or Thiazide diuretics. This is to decrease the risk of developing heart disease or a stroke. They are not yet sure if life style changes would be sufficient to lower the reading or if a reading of 140 to 160 should be treated.
