Amino Acid Supplement
L-Carnitine is the bioactive form of an energizing compound naturally synthesized by two amino acids, lysine and methionine. In living cells, L-Carnitine is needed to transport fatty acids from the extracellular fluid into the mitochondria, where they are broken down for energy production of the cell. To put it simply – L-Carnitine converts fat into energy, thereby increasing metabolism!
As a dietary supplement, L-Carnitine offers support for healthy fat metabolism, resulting in healthy and lean body mass, supports male fertility, and increases endurance, strength, and stamina in the muscles. When consumed as a dietary supplement, L-Carnitine has also been identified for playing a role in the healthy functioning of your heart, kidney, liver, thyroid and lungs.
L-Carnitine allows the body to convert fat into energy so the muscle can use it. Remember, the heart is a muscle as well, and a very metabolically active one at that! L-Carnitine is ideal for helping to strengthen and protect the heart, as well as recover from exercise.

Here, Jerry speaks about the benefits of L-carnitine…
Narcolepsy is a strange condition. In the middle of the day afflicted individuals can fall asleep. They’re extremely tired, extremely fatigued. They finally did a study on this condition with a supplement and their findings made a lot of sense. Still, I don’t think they used enough for the supplement.
L-carnitine (something that drops in the body as you age) is also supplement that gives you energy. It’s just one of those things that affect your metabolism. In this study done by the University of Tokyo with these patients with narcolepsy, L-carnitine lessened how often they were dozing off in the day. There’s significance here. The problem is they didn't use enough. They should have used various strengths. They should have used 500 mg, 1000 mg and 1,500 mg. I generally give older people or very fatigued people anywhere from 1,500 mg to 2,000 mg per day. It takes time, but it can make a difference in their fatigue, it really can.
I want to talk about something from a good journal called Perspectives on Psychological Science from our own NYU, New York University, right here in New York City. When they gave kids fish oil supplements, simply doing that raised their IQ 3.5 points. Now, 3.5 points can make the difference between doing well on a math exam or not being able to grasp the idea of the math problems in general. So, it’s a smartness thing. I don’t know how many kids will eat fish. My oldest boy, when he was a kid, ate fish sporadically. I actually gave him fish oil and a tincture. I would add it to his food. My youngest kid loves fish. So, it was no problem. He would eat salmon all the time, so we never had that issue. But it really is something very beneficial for a young person’s brain and for an older person’s brain, too. They’ve shown that fish oils protect the structure and function of the brain when you age; it’s as simple as that. Still, there is no single nutrient for the brain to thrive on. There is no simple solution for the brain. The brain is very complex. A lot of things can go wrong, a whole lot. Alzheimer’s disease for example, there’s a lot of terrible things going on at once: you’re creating tangles on the nerve cells, you’re getting deposits of nasty proteins that are like tar, you’re getting a great deal of information so you can’t use sugar for energy. There’s no neurotransmitter like acetylcholine involved with retrieving memories. So, there’s a lot of bad things going on, but when you have a combination of nutrients, it does have a protective value against sometimes even the worst case scenarios in the brain.
One of the core healthful things to do for the brain is eating fish and I urge everybody to eat fish. In fact, I eat fish whenever I can and I take fish oils. I actually take something called Krill Oil because I want the choline and the astaxanthin. But just like I said, there’s no magic bullet for the brain. I used to get fish burps no matter what I did because of my digestive system. Now, I don’t have to worry about the cholesterol and mercury levels of fish. Although our fish oils are free of mercury and they’re coated, I don’t get the burps. I wanted the choline and I wanted the astaxanthin which are very important for the aging brain.
What is L-Carnitine?
L-Carnitine is a natural substance found in most cells of the body, and it is crucial for the production of energy. After your body metabolizes fats and carbohydrates into fatty acids, L-Carnitine transports them into the mitochondrial power plants of the cell, where they serve as fuel for energy production. Simply put, L-Carnitine turns fat into energy.
Where does L-Carnitine come from?
L-Carnitine is a vitamin-like substance that resembles an amino acid. It can be manufactured in small amounts in the body out of the amino acids Lysine and Methionine. It is also found in food sources such as meat.
