Hepatox Hx®

Hepatox supplies the body with powerful herbal antioxidants that help protect the liver cells, acting like a shield for your liver. Hepatox Hx® is a unique formula that blends three herbs used for centuries in traditional European and Ayurvedic medicine for an effective and natural approach to liver protection. This protective herbal blend promotes the liver’s normal restorative processes.*

Your liver is the workhorse of the body and responsible for 6 major functions, one of which is detoxification, or the rendering of toxic chemicals into harmless ones that can be excreted from the body. Because it has such an important function in the body, it is exposed to endless compounds from the internal and external environment. Environmental agents such as food, pesticides, alcohol, solvents, heavy metals (such as cadmium and arsenic, lead, or mercury) can accumulate in the liver, potentially leading to poor function, hardening of liver tissue and eventual cell death.

As the liver performs its job of detoxifying the body, the very things it is removing from your system including particles from cigarette smoke, vehicle exhaust, pesticides and herbicides, can damage liver tissue on their way out of your body. Hepatox Hx® protects the liver from the many lifestyle factors we engage in on a daily basis, protecting the wear-and-tear on the liver. The herbs in Hepatox Hx® shield your liver from all of these damaging factors by coating the liver cells and helping it to regenerate.

Expert Discussion

Jerry Hickey is a pharmacist and radio personality and fills the esteemed role of Scientific Director and President of Invite Health. He has spent his professional life analyzing nutritional information and medical studies with the aim of creating the highest quality and most natural nutraceuticals for user’s maximum health benefits. Here, Jerry speaks about the benefits of Hepatox…

We have something called Hepatox which is our original liver formula. Its key ingredient is milk thistle. Milk thistle is rich in certain components and has a profound impact on the health of the liver. So we have it in there as well as silymarin. Silymarin is a combination of three different liver health ingredients and this product is very rich with those. Before we go to Hepatox, I want to read you just amazing study; I read a story about resveratrol and I truly believe products like resveratrol and carnosine are extremely important for keeping the aging body healthy. If you can afford them they’re very important nutrients to have. That’s why I tell people, put your money to some real solid use and get these individual ingredients that are so dramatic that are so unbelievably healthy such as carnosine, resveratrol and ubiquinol rather than just multivitamins. I mean these are very important supplements as we age. They just take the pain out of aging. I don’t mean physical pain, I mean grief. It just makes aging much more pleasant, much more graceful, and with a better quality of life. You know, when you do the right supplements, your vision stays healthier, your brain stays sharper, your muscles are stronger, you’re more balanced, it’s easier to walk and your knees are more comfortable. It’s just a clever way to use these things properly and really has a huge impact on wellness and staying well.

Here’s a study that came out on adiponectin. Now, we read a study yesterday that shows resveratrol elevating adiponectin levels. Now, what’s adiponectin? It’s a very crucial, important hormone in the human body that if you lack you could develop diabetes or develop a fatty liver or heart disease. The paradox with adiponectin is that it’s released from fat cells. As you gain weight on your belly, you release less adiponectin. A number of human clinical trials are showing that resveratrol specifically improves adiponectin levels even in heavy people. This is a key finding on the effects of resveratrol because that protects your liver, lowers your risk of diabetes, protects your heart and helps you burn fat. So it’s a key finding that they’re uncovering again and again. It’s amazing to me because every time they uncover it they say it’s a new discovery, and it’s really not. There are at least four human studies at least that have shown that resveratrol stimulates adiponectin release in humans.

So they did a study where they gave people resveratrol and it improved adiponectin levels by 10% within a short amount of time, reducing inflammation in their artery walls. I read a study yesterday that has to do with pancreatic cancer. Now, pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. It killed some of President Jimmy Carter’s relatives. It killed the actor, Patrick Swayze. It killed Steve Jobs, the guy who founded Apple computers. Pancreatic cancer is nasty. It’s painful. It makes you nauseous. It’s a nasty way to go. And it’s the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. But the reasons behind how it occurs are not totally clear. Now, adiponectin, that hormone that I said is secreted from fat cells and helps sensitize your body to the effects of insulin…maybe that’s how resveratrol is working. You know, resveratrol has been shown to help lower their risk of developing diabetes in heavy people and older people. There are human clinical trials showing this from Mount Sinai, from Albert Einstein, from Montpellier over in Paris, from INSERM over in France, from all these different universities as well as the University of Connecticut. So resveratrol improves insulin sensitivity. It seems that it does it partially by boosting adiponectin levels because adiponectin are hormones you secrete from fat cells that sensitize your body to the effects of insulin and the insulin then clears the sugar out of your blood, which is the opposite of diabetes. With diabetes, you cannot clear the sugar out of your blood. And the sugar is floating around and it’s destroying everything because it causes inflammation. So, adiponectin is an anti-inflammatory agent that helps lower your risk of developing diabetes.

Now, insulin resistance and diabetes and obesity are all risks for pancreatic cancer. The big risks we know for pancreatic cancer are having a consistent inflammation of the pancreas called pancreatitis. Sometimes you see that in people with high triglycerides levels, or have a big belly, or drink a lot of alcohol, or have diabetes, or smoke cigarettes or have low levels of vitamin D. And the other thing is having insulin resistance; they’re all involved in an increased risk of pancreatic cancer.

These are Harvard Medical School researchers led by a Dr. Ying Bao who is a medical doctor from Harvard Medical School. They pulled data from five huge studies and at the same time. They took almost 500 people with pancreatic cancer and compared them to over a thousand people, same age, same race, same sex, et cetera. They compared them to find out what’s causing pancreatic cancer. They found almost irrefutably that low adiponectin levels allow the development of pancreatic cancer. So what do you see go down when people drink alcohol? Adiponectin. What do you see go down when people develop insulin resistance? Adiponectin. What do you see go down when people develop a big belly? Adiponectin. What do you see go down when people have diabetes? Adiponectin. All of these things are tied into pancreatic cancer and this big Harvard review of the existing research, they pulled five prospective U.S. cohort studies, big studies, and then they also got a new study where they took almost 500 people with pancreatic cancer and compared to almost 1100 people without it. Our data provides additional evidence for biological links between obesity and insulin resistance and pancreatic cancer risk and also the independent role of adiponectin in the development of pancreatic cancer. So clearly, there is an indication that as adiponectin goes down your risk of this nasty dreaded cancer goes up. Well, all I can say is that there’s certainly evidence for at least three or four human clinical trials that in everybody and anybody resveratrol supplementation helps with adiponectin levels. So you might want to take a look at resveratrol and you might want to discuss it with your family. I think it’s an excellent supplement as you get older. I think it’s beyond an excellent supplement. For one thing, it makes your HDL cholesterol work better and for another it makes your LDL less sticky. That alone is worth the price of admission for me.

Hepatox is a combination of three liver-friendly plants; one is milk thistle which contains a whole bunch of different healthy things. It contains triterpenes, it contains flavanoids, it contains saponins, and sterols, but the best known ingredient is the flavanoids known as silymarin. A polyphenol is known as silymarin. Silymarin is really a family of three liver-friendly antioxidants.

Hepa means liver. So, there’s 100mg of milk thistle per capsule in a Hepatox and it’s 80% of silymarin, that group of flavonoids that is so good for the liver and soluble in the liver. The liver is just pretty big organ, the only organ bigger than it is your skin. And there’s a reason for that; it has so many jobs and it needs a lot of area to accomplish those jobs. It needs a lot of volume. Your liver has hundreds of jobs. Your liver helps create digestive ingredients, for instance, you create things that digest fat in your liver. Your liver helps clear the sugar out of your blood after a meal and if your sugar gets too low in between meals your liver helps release sugar back into the blood. And that’s called gluconeogenesis.

So in other words, if you eat a meal and you eat too much, your liver can store some of that sugar and later on in between meals when your sugar starts to get too low and you become fatigued, your liver will release some of that sugar to bring up the blood sugar levels so that your body gets energy. Your liver filters chemicals and toxins and bacteria and viruses and parasites out of your food and out of your blood. After you eat most foods, almost all the foods’ ingredients go through a big artery into the liver, which is called the portal circulation. So when you eat a meal, most of the food except for certain fats and amino acids and vitamins and minerals will go into this big artery inside your liver. And lining the walls of this artery are these huge white blood cells called macrophages which will pick out little pieces of plastic and Styrofoam and pieces of pesticides because if these things escape into your blood, they can attack your heart causing an infection in your heart and that can kill you. It can cause cardiomyopathy. So the liver cleanses the bacteria and the infectious organisms and the viruses out of your food. Your liver stores some vitamin K and it stores some vitamin A and it stores vitamin D and it stores a whole bunch of other things as well. It stores vitamin B12. It helps create blood cells, it has all these different jobs, so many different jobs and because the liver also has to remove toxic chemicals from the back, and all broken down blood cells, it’s damaged. So it has to be able to heal and rejuvenate itself. So you could literally cut the liver in half and throw half of it in the garbage and the liver will grow back to its original size. But there’s a limit to how much a liver can be damaged. If you damage more than 80% of the liver, it can no longer heal itself. Five or 10 minutes after swallowing the Hepatox, it’s already breaking down because it’s an extremely well-made vegetable Vcaps capsule. It’s breaking down and it’s starting to enter into the liver and these milk thistle antioxidants can penetrate deep into the liver and get to the liver cells and protect them. The liver is controlling your cholesterol, the liver is controlling your triglycerides, the liver is controlling your blood sugar and all these things cause inflammation of the liver. The liver is filtering pollutants and toxins and pesticides out of your food. All of these things can damage the liver. The liver is filtering bacteria and viruses out of the food. All of these things can damage the liver.

The milk thistle penetrates deep into the liver and shields the liver cells and it allows the liver to recreate itself. The liver creates its own proteins quicker and rejuvenates itself quicker. It is more successful at healing itself with it. The dandelion helps to shield the liver from like fatty cells which is why we put dandelion root in there. And phyllanthus amarus helps shield the liver from bacteria. Every time you eat there’s bacteria entering your liver and your immune cells are killing them. The phyllanthus amarus is a shield against the free radicals surrounded off by the bacteria. You know, when you eat something you get bacteria like anthrax in it. And anthrax is dangerous because it creates chemical warfare in your body.

So, phyllanthus amarus shields the liver from the things that throw off toxins. That’s why we mix these three things together. And I tell people, take Hepatox, try one capsule, you’ll probably love it and then go on one capsule three times a day with meals. It’s good practice to do that two or three times a year as a liver flush, a liver cleanse. Two or three times a year, I tell people, it’s a good strategy to help the body to detoxify. Hepatox shields and nourishes the liver and allows it to regenerate itself. That’s a good way for the entire body to detoxify itself. Some people do it according to a change in seasons. So all of a sudden it’s spring time and I say, ‘Okay, spring cleaning, it’s not just my kitchen and it’s not just my bedroom, I’m going to spring clean my liver’. In fact, we have a lot of people who do that. And so they’ll do it spring, summer, fall and winter. I do it just when I feel like it, when I feel like I’m eating too much food. You know, eating too much food could be very toxic to the liver. And I kind of went a little bit overboard with Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I’m actually doing a course of Hepatox now that I’ll do for a couple of weeks. I’m taking one capsule three times a day with meals. Just to allow my liver to regenerate, that’s all.

The Hepatox is for any adult’s liver, but it’s also for the gallbladder, the common bile duct, the kidneys and the skin. It’s good for almost anything from your belly down inside your body. It’s also great for your skin because the antioxidants in the Hepatox, the triterpenoids, the plant saponins and especially the silymarin antioxidants, they get into your skin too. And guess what time of the year it is, people take their sojourn, they take their winter trip down to Florida or they go on a cruise in the Caribbean. There’s an awful lot of sun exposure and most of us cannot handle it. And I tell people if you’re going in the sun, you can look at this supplement as an internal sunscreen and take one Hepatox. There are several antioxidants that do that, such as grape seed. When I use to have a boat, I would take grape seed and Hepatox and I’d slather on sunscreen. There are actually three antioxidants that are great for “sunscreen activities”, one is glisodin, but that wasn’t around when I had my boat. I used to have this small 23-foot boat that I used to take my kids out fishing on and exploring. I would take those and slather on my sunscreen and I know the grape seed was safe, so I used to give my kids grape seed because the grape seed will also help protect your eyes from the sun, which is great because the sun can be damaging for your eyes.

So, Hepatox protects your skin in the sun. The sun is the number one cause of damage to the skin and we know what damage to the skin can cause besides wrinkles. And it’s also great for the liver.
