Green Tea/ Vitamin C/ Amino Acid Combination may Fight Osteosarcoma

January 14, 2005

Osteosarcoma is the more common form of bone cancer. Current chemotherapeutic treatment is associated with other future cancers. Therefore new safe and effective treatment strategies are needed. Researchers at Mathias Rath Research Cancer Division in Santa Clara combined the amino acids Lysine, Arginine, and Proline along with Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C), and EGCG from Green Tea and added this to various osteosarcoma cell lines. The combination inhibited cancer cell invasion by 100%. It inhibited the proliferation of one form of osteosarcoma cell by 67%, but not others. The release of cellular chemicals that allow metastasis were totally inhibityed at higher concentrations. The study is published in the February 13th, 2005 issue of Oncology Reports.

Green Tea Polyphenols Successfully Cause Fat Loss

Healthy Japanese men were placed on a controlled diet for two weeks before starting a 12 week placebo-controlled, double-blind study. 17 men were supplemented with a bottle of Oolongtea daily containing 690mg of Green Tea Catechins, the control group of 18 men were placed on Oolong Tea containing only 22mg of Green tea Catechins. Both groups of men were evenly matched for body mass index (BMI - a measure of body fat) and waist circumference. The men on high potency Green Tea Catechins had a significant drop in body weight, BMI, waist size, body fat mass, and subcutaneous fat versus the control group after 12 weeks. Consuming high concentrations of Green tea Polyphenols daily for 2 weeks decreases body fat and waist size. The study is published in the January issue of the American Journal Of Clinical Nutrition.
