Gamma-Tocopherol reduces the risk of advanced prostate cancer

Researchers at the College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago examined any benefit from the four different tocopherols and prevention of prostate cancer in 295,344 men between the ages of 50 to 71. Gamma-tocopherol strongly decreased the risk of advanced prostate cancer by 32%. Gamma-tocopherol is rarely used in supplements and was food derived in this study which is published in the June 2007 issue of the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.

Only Alpha-Tocopherol from supplements decreases the risk of prostate cancer in smokers

Scientists from the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda analyzed research on 29,133 smoking men. The highest (vs. the lowest) serum levels of Alpha-tocopherol decreased the risk of prostate cancer in smokers by 20%. Alpha-Tocopherol was strongly related to a decreased risk of advanced prostate cancer slashing the risk by 44%. Only Alpha-tocopherol from a supplement was protective and not from the diet. The study is published in the June 2007 issue of the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.
