Fish Oil capsules treat depression in the elderly

A group of elderly patients with mild to moderate depression were supplemented with either placebo or a 1000mg Fish Oil capsule supplying 300mg of Omega 3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA). The depression scores improved significantly on fish oils versus placebo and it was clinically more effective giving mild relief. Thye study is published online ahead of print in the journal European Archives of Psychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience.
