Diabetics are at greater risk of loosing memory than their healthy peers. In this new, small study diabetics were fed a high fat, the same meal with antioxidant Vitamins, or just water. The patients did not usually take antioxidant supplements. A battery of cognitive tests shows that the high fat meal leads to poor performance in verbal recall and working memory. Water did not hurt the memory. However, the same high fat meal did not affect the memory or verbal recall if the patients were taking Vitamin C 1000mg with Vitamin E 800 IU every day. The study is published in the July 2008 issue of the journal Nutrition Research.
