Sterols Plus Hx®

Plant Sterols are a natural component of many healthy foods, including vegetable oils, nuts and seeds. However, it is difficult to obtain an adequate supply of these plant-based nutrients from food sources. In the body, plant sterols look just like cholesterol but they have the opposite impact. An adequate supply of Sterols in the digestive tract has been shown to combat bad cholesterol and help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.†

Important Components of Sterols Plus Hx®

Phytosterol Esters are plant fats that help support and maintain healthy cardiovascular and circulatory system function and provide support for healthy cholesterol levels. Oat Beta Glucans are a fiber from oat bran that have the ability to bind to cholesterol that is present in foods we consume, thereby escorting some cholesterol out of the body before it can be absorbed. Red Yeast Rice is a natural substance extracted from rice that supports healthy cholesterol levels. The Proanthocyanidins in Cranberry Fruit Extract may help support circulatory health.†

Supplements containing at least 650mg per serving of Plant Sterol Esters, taken twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 1.3 grams, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.†

The Science Behind Sterols

Research from the International Journal of Molecular Medicine states that Beta Glucans from oat bran are linear unbranched polysaccharides found in various natural sources. Due to their structure they are able to interact with immune system receptors, however they also act as dietary fibers in the digestive tract. As there are two forms of ß-glucans, insoluble and soluble forms, they are able to interact with lipids and biliary salts in the bowel and to support cholesterol levels thereby supporting heart health. [1]

Research published in the Methodist Debakey cardiovascular Journal states that consumption of Red Yeast Rice Extract helps to support heart health and maintain healthy cholesterol levels already within normal range. [2]

Research from Advances in Nutrition states that consuming cranberries helps to protect the heart and improve biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress. There is encouraging evidence of a cardio-protective effect of cranberries mediated via actions on antioxidant capacity and lipoprotein profiles. [3]
