The word adaptogen in herbal medicine refers to an herb or plant extract that helps the body adapt to stress and fatigue, while promoting or restoring normal physiological (bodily) functioning. Rhodiola is just such an herb. Rhodiola is a highly effective adaptogen that helps to increase energy and offers support for stress relief, and helps counteract fatigue and burnout. It promotes a soothing, calming effect, while steadily improving a sense of well-being. This herb also supports endurance, so you can achieve more with exercise or for sports performance. Rhodiola may also support healthy immune system function over the winter and during times of prolonged stress.†

The Science Behind Rhodiola
Research from Current Pharmacology Reports states that Rhodiola rosea extracts have been used as a dietary supplement in healthy populations, including athletes, to enhance the natural resistance of the body to both physical and behavioral stresses for fighting fatigue and burnout. In addition to its multiplex stress-protective activity, Rhodiola rosea extracts have recently demonstrated its anti-aging, anti-inflammation, immune-stimulating, DNA health and support. [1]
Research published in BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies states that supplementation with Rhodiola helped the participants with endurance and mental fatigue from stress and burnout. This was witnessed with significantly lower levels of oxidative stress and salivary cortisol levels were measure after supplementation. [2]
A study published in the International Journal of Molecular Medicine found that supplementation with Rhodiola helps to enhance immune system functioning in humans. Changes in thymus T lymphocytes, and immune system cells like phagocytes were observed after supplementation. The Rhodiola was able to prevent the apoptosis of the healthy T cells helping to improve the body's immune defenses. Rhodiola also showed anti-inflammatory effects as cytokine levels significantly decreased after supplementation. [3]
