Melatonin Supplement
Melatonin is a hormone naturally found in the body. Darkness causes the body to produce more Melatonin, which signals the body to prepare for sleep. Light decreases Melatonin, signaling the body to prepare to awaken. Melatonin helps support healthy sleep patterns. For individuals who have trouble falling asleep, Melatonin may reduce the length of time it takes to fall asleep. For people who wake up frequently, Melatonin may induce a deeper, more refreshing level of sleep.†
When taken at night, Melatonin may support blood pressure already within a normal range and may improve sleep in older individuals who have experienced a decline in their Melatonin level. Melatonin may improve the effects of jet lag and may support the activity of the immune system. Its release is important for the health of the hair, as well.†

The Science Behind Melatonin
The research from The Journal of Pineal Research states that by lowering core body temperature, melatonin reduces arousal and increases sleep-propensity. Thus, in humans, one role of melatonin is to transduce the light-dark cycle and define a window-of-opportunity in which sleep-propensity is enhanced. [1]
Research from the British Journal of Pharmacology states how the sleep–wake cycle is the most overt circadian rhythm. This is mostly regulated by the pineal gland for which melatonin helps to support and maintain regularity. [2]
A study published in the Journal of Pineal Research found that by supplementing with 10mg of melatonin significant alleviation of stress-related symptoms and hormone levels were seen. [3]
