N-Acetyl-Cysteine - NAC Supplement
N-Acetyl-Cysteine, commonly called NAC, is the stabilized version of the amino acid known as Cysteine. NAC is a conditionally-essential nutrient required by the body in larger servings during times of stress, illness and recovery.†
NAC has been shown to help break down the immune system’s “chemical messengers”, known as leukotrienes and to break up mucus, supporting immune, nasal and respiratory health. N-Acetyl-Cysteine is involved in the synthesis of Glutathione, the "Mother Antioxidant Enzyme", that protects your immune cells and neurotransmitters, and removes toxins in the liver. This makes NAC extremely beneficial for the heart, kidneys, and healthy detoxification processes. N-Acetyl-Cysteine is also involved in the area of the brain that controls compulsive behavior, which may be beneficial for those trying to quit smoking or drinking.†

The Science Behind N-Acetyl-Cysteine
A study published in the Daru Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences states that supplementing with high doses of NAC benefits human subjects in various ways. It helps to support the body’s immune system both as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory as well as benefit the cells by increasing glutathione production. [1]
Research from Medicine states that supplementation with NAC helps to support the upper respiratory tract. It is well known that inflammation is tied to oxidative stress, particularly in the upper respiratory tract. NAC, a thiol reducing-agent was shown to modulate the signaling pathways of chronic inflammatory production of cytokines in the lungs and bronchial tubes affecting lung health and function. [2]
Research published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences states that supplementation with NAC helps to support liver health and function thereby helping with systemic inflammation and oxidative stress. NAC was seen to reduce the over-production of nitric oxide from the signaling of cytokine production in the liver. [3]
