DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is a naturally occurring hormone made in the human body and secreted by the adrenal gland, which is located just above the kidney. It is a precursor to the sex hormones testosterone and estrogen. As a hormone supplement, DHEA supports lean body mass and offers nutritional support for natural DHEA levels that tend to decrease throughout the aging process. DHEA also helps support bone mineral density and bone loss with older women and men, respectively.†

The Science Behind DHEA
A review published in the Journal of Drugs found supplementing with DHEA to be of superior benefit. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfated form dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) are the most abundant circulating steroid hormones in humans. In the elderly, DHEA exerts an immunomodulatory action, increasing the number of immune cells to support overall immunity. The study reports that DHEA also supports physical and psychological well-being, muscle strength and bone density.
A study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found that supplementation with DHEA produced some significant anti-aging effects in older adults. Men in the highest quartile of serum DHEA level, compared with those with a serum DHEA level in the lowest quartile, seemed younger, leaner, more fit, had higher TT and FT levels, and had a favorable lipid profile.
A study published in Climacteric: The Journal for the International Menopause Society found significant evidence for the sexual health benefits of supplementing with DHEA, including libido and stamina. DHEA was also found to support healthy levels of sex hormones.
