The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell that produces the energy that tissues within the body need to keep us healthy and energized. Healthy levels of Carnitine support this function, along with cellular metabolism, endurance and cardiovascular health. L-Carnitine is the bioactive form of an energizing compound of two amino acids, lysine and methionine. In living cells, L-Carnitine is needed to transport fatty acids from the mitochondria, where they are broken down for energy production of the cell. To put it simply – L-Carnitine converts fat into energy, thereby increasing metabolism.†
As a dietary supplement, L-Carnitine offers support for healthy fat metabolism, male fertility, and the strength and stamina in the muscles. L-Carnitine also plays a role in the healthy functioning of the heart, kidney, liver, thyroid and lungs. L-Carnitine is ideal for helping to strengthen and protect the heart, as well as recover from exercise.†

The Science Behind L-Carnitine
According to research from the Indian Journal of Clinical Biochemistry, L-Arginine may be helpful to use by humans as an ergogenic aid because of its role in converting fat into energy. Supplementation, short-term with L-Carnitine was said to cause a significant increase in muscle glycogen and plasma protein in both animal and human subjects causing an increase in muscle power and energy.
Research published in Biomedical Research International states that supplementation with L-Carnitine helps to support cardiovascular health and function in humans. L-carnitine is a vitamin-like amino acid that plays an important role in supporting the body's metabolic activities. There is growing evidence that high concentrations of L-Carnitine provide beneficial effects in cardiovascular health, maintaining blood sugar already within normal range, maintaining cholesterol already within normal range and maintaining blood pressure already within normal range.
A study from the European Journal of Applied Physiology concluded that supplementation with L-Carnitine helps to enhance physical performance and endurance as well as speed up recovery in both animals and humans. It was also found that L-Carnitine supplementation helps to speed up recovery from strenuous exercise since blood L-Carnitine concentrations cause a vasodilation in blood vessels during exercise.
