SAMe Supplement

S-Adenosyl-Methionine, or SAMe, is a naturally-occurring compound found in nearly every tissue of the body. As a supplement, SAMe supports liver, joint and brain health. SAMe has been shown to offer support for joint discomfort. It is highly involved in the breakdown of brain chemicals like serotonin, dopamine and melatonin and works together with the B-vitamins (Folate, B12 and B6) for production of neurotransmitters in the brain. It also plays a role in maintaining the immune system and cell membrane health. SAMe may also support liver health.†

Exclusive InVite® Health Features of SAMe

  • Non-GMO Dietary Supplement
  • Made following cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices)

The Science Behind SAMe

Research from the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry found that both oral and parenteral supplementation with SAMe was effective at improving mood in human participants. It was stated that SAMe easily crosses the blood-brain barrier and increases cerebrospinal fluid. [1]

A randomized, double-blind crossover study published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders found that supplementation with SAMe helped to alleviate symptoms of knee pain and inflammation including pain, stiffness, and decreased range of motion just as effective as NSAIDs, however at a slower rate. [2]

Research from Plos One states that supplementation with SAMe helps to support and improve cognitive function. SAMe plays an integral role as methyl donor in the metabolism of Methionine to homocysteine. In this conversion, SAMe regulates processes via DNA methylation like in activating important B vitamins such as folate and B12 that have been implicated in its efficacy for the support of brain health, supporting healthy joint tissue and liver support in humans. [3]

Research from Annals of Hepatology explains how vital SAMe is to liver function and health in humans. Although all mammalian cells synthesize SAMe, the liver is where the bulk of SAMe is generated as it is the organ where about 50% of all dietary methionine is metabolized. SAMe is mainly needed for methylation of a number of different things in humans (DNA, proteins, lipids and many other small molecules) so if the concentration of SAMe falls below a certain level or rises too much the normal function of the liver will be also affected.
