The Science Behind Natural Baby Body Wash

sleep in very young infants. Very young infants were given a bath with or without lavender-scented bath oil. The mothers in the lavender bath oil group were more relaxed, smiled and touched their infants more during the bath. Their infants looked at them a greater percentage of the bath time and cried less and spent more time in deep sleep after bath. The cortisol levels of this group of mothers and infants significantly decreased, confirming the behavioral data showing increased relaxation of the mothers and their infants. These findings support a body of research showing the relaxing and sleep-inducing properties of lavender aroma. [1]

Research from Clinical Cosmetics and Investigative Dermatology found that the natural ingredient, Decyl Glucoside (cleanser from sugar) was well tolerated among infant subjects. Infant skin is exposed to factors such as saliva, nasal secretions, urine, feces (including fecal enzymes), and dirt, which can be irritants and result in disruption of the skin barrier. As a result of normal daily exposure to these external factors, proper skin cleansing and protection of the infant skin barrier are essential to the maintenance of skin-barrier function. Given the importance of the skin barrier in infants, it is important to use topical skin-care products that have undergone adequate skin-tolerance studies. In one such study, the ingredient Decyl Glucoside (cleanser from sugar) was well tolerated on the skin exhibiting softness and no irritation on infant subjects. [2]

Research from the Dove Press Clinical Cosmetic Investigative Dermatology explains how Emu Oil can serve as a healthy, natural ingredient for babies skin care. A skin care moisturizer developed specifically for infants (emu oil-based lotion) seems to be well tolerated, significantly improving skin hydration, pH, and elasticity of newborns' skinafter 1 and even 24 hours of application.
