The Science Behind Natural Baby Bottom Ointment
Research from Clinical Cosmetics and Investigative Dermatology found that natural candelilla wax helped to support skin health and protection in babies. Infant skin is exposed to factors such as saliva, nasal secretions, urine, feces (including fecal enzymes), and dirt, which can be irritants and result in disruption of the skin barrier. As a result of normal daily exposure to these external factors, proper skin cleansing, hydration and protection of the infant skin barrier are essential to the maintenance of skin-barrier function. Given the importance of the skin barrier in neonates and infants, it is important to use topical skin-care products that have undergone adequate skin-tolerance studies. In one such study, the ingredient candelilla wax was well tolerated on the skin exhibiting softness and no irritation on infant subjects' skin. [1]
Research published in the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology found that rice bran contains bioactive compounds and antioxidants that allow for nourishment and hydration of babies skin when used as an ingredient in skin care products. [2]
Research from the International Journal of Molecular Sciences states that the use of mango seed oil has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin, helps to promote wound healing and helps with the repair of skin barrier. The phytochemicals and free form fatty acids within this plant oil helps to hydrate and protect the outer layer of the skin. [3]
