The Science Behind Ingredients In Cocoa Hx®
The cocoa flavanols in our formula have not been processed or stripped of their natural antioxidants and nutrients. The minerals found in cocoa have been the focus of much recent research into the cardiovascular and blood sugar benefits that these “superfood” cocoa beans provide. The magnesium, copper, iron and potassium all affect vascular function hence, improving cocoa’s nutritional effect. Magnesium is the most abundant mineral in cocoa and it is responsible for a multitude of biologic reactions, including protein synthesis and energy production, as well as acting as an antiarrhythmic and hypotensive agent.
The minerals and antioxidants in cocoa have been shown to induce the release of nitric oxide, supporting healthy blood pressure levels. 
Cocoa also contains a high amount of theobromine, a compound similar to caffeine without the caffeine affect. Theobromine possesses antioxidant properties that have been shown to target oxidative stress, support healthy cholesterol levels, and enhance mood.
Cocoa has also been studied extensively for its brain supporting properties, as well as for focus, mood and overall memory. 
Cocoa also contains other compounds with potential biological activity to optimize brain health. These are biogenic amines such as serotonin, tryptophan, phenylethylamine, tyrosine, tryptamine and tyramine. In multiple clinical trials, cocoa has been verified with functional MRI testing  and electroencephalogram (EEG)  in enhancing cerebral blood flow to the brain, and improving cognitive performance.
