Description

COMT

COMT (Catechol-O-methyltranferase) is central to dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine metabolism. Mutations are associated with hormonal imbalances, high stress and worry, compulsive behavior, increased pain perception and problems with focus and attention.

MTHFR

MTHFR (Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase) is an enzyme that is needed to convert folate into (6S)-5-MTHF (5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate); the active form of folic acid.

Mutations in the MTHFR gene are associated with difficulty creating the active form of folic acid. This can lead to increased levels of homocysteine, a known risk factor for heart disease, venous thrombosis, and atherosclerosis. Maintaining healthy levels of activated folate is essential for cardiovascular system, nervous system and mood health. Those with a mutation cannot efficiently breakdown the regular folic acid found in many foods and most vitamins and may benefit from taking activated folate (5-MTHF).

A defect in the MTHFR gene has been associated with heart disease, anxiety, depression, bipolar, infertility, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), migraines, and chronic fatigue.

Technology Matters

Our partners at Kashi Clinical Laboratories use the latest in quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction instrumentation with a high degree of sensitivity for detecting gene snips accurately.

Scientific rigor matters

SNP’s are only included in our panels when peer reviewed studies show there is a clear connection with treatment decision making, the studies are relevant across a range of population types, clinical intervention is indicated, and that nutritional or other lifestyle choices can affect the regulation of gene expression.

Results and Resources

Your results will be ready within 5-7 business days of receipt at the lab. Once your results are ready, an InVite® certified healthcare professional will contact you to discuss your results and recommend a supplement protocol based on your specific results.

The programs listed below are recommendations from InVite® Experts and have been developed based on the individual gene mutations that may show up on your test results. Once your results are ready, an InVite® Expert will guide you through the best program for your needs.
