Turmeric and Curcumin
Turmeric, also known as Curcuma longa, is a plant that is cultivated in tropical areas around the world. The rhizome (the thick woody root) is used as a spice in regional cuisines and in curry. It is also used in traditional medicine for improving circulation and digestion. Turmeric extracts are marketed as dietary supplements to improve memory, for arthritis, and for cancer prevention.
The active constituents are turmerone oil and water-soluble curcuminoids, mainly curcumin. Curcumin is the principal bioactive ingredient of turmeric, which is also the focus of most research. The essential oils found in the plant such as aromatic turmerone, are not included in most supplements because they are difficult to work with. However these essential oils are proving valuable for protecting the brain of aging adults and are patented for this use (use for Alzheimer’s treatment).
BioCurcumin
BioCurcumin is a well-absorbed Turmeric supplement; normally this plant is very poorly absorbed. BioCurcumin includes all of the different curcuminoids, as well as the essential oils and has them as a very high percentage of the supplement. It has been used in many human clinical trials ranging from depression and Alzheimer’s disease, precancerous sores in the mouth, adjunctive use for prostate cancer treatment, intestinal diseases of the colon, and especially for arthritic joints, pain and inflammation. So BioCurcumin is well absorbed and is high in its active ingredients making up 95% of the supplement and it contains the full profile of Curcumins ingredients, offering better treatment and additional benefits.
In this study, researchers from Baylor University compared increasing doses of BioCurcumin to the same increasing doses of regular curcumin in animals with colitis which is a terrible and painful disease of the colon. As the dose of BioCurcumin increased in potency, it further and further reduced inflammation and disease symptoms and damage. The effects of regular curcumin did not improve with increasing potencies; it leveled off very quickly as far as efficacy and was inferior to BioCurcumin.
BioCurcumin caused an increase in IL-10, IL-11, and FOXP3; All of which are healing and reduce pain, inflammation, and suffering. The study is published in the journal Nature Scientific Reports.
