Here, Jerry speaks about the benefits of Phosphatidylserine…
We’re going to talk about a brain health nutrient now. It’s considered completely safe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and there are about 2 ounces of it in your body, with 1 ounce residing in your brain. That’s how important it is for your brain. And it’s one of the reasons why eating fish is good for your brain because the ingredients in the fish interact with this nutrient. It’s not in the fish really, but the fish oils interact with this nutrient and suck it into the brain cells and it makes the brain cells work again. It’s called Phosphatidylserine.
So 60% of your brain is made out of lipids which another name for ‘fats’. A very important fat in your brain is called phosphatidylserine. It’s an important player for cognitive function, for executive functions, and especially for your memory. And Phosphatidylserine levels drop with age. This supplement has been clinically proven to improve your cognitive functions that have suffered due to age. You know you get that forgetfulness, that absentmindedness, you don’t remember where you put your keys, you can’t remember your friend’s name whatever it might be. Clinical studies indicate that that it can slow down and even reverse that normal decline seen in the aging brain that has to do with memory. It literally can restore 10 to 50 years of memory function. It just makes the brain younger again.
We’re talking about a supplement that’s incredible for the brain. It’s called phosphatidylserine and it’s been shown clinically to help restore cognitive functions and it’s also been show that it can literally restore about 10 to 15 years of brain health of memory functions. And besides being important for the brain, it also helps with focus and concentration. It’s something that’s good for students and it’s also good for stress, which is pretty amazing. It’s pretty amazing that one supplement in the brain can do so much.
Here is some research from the University of Sherbrooke up in Quebec, Canada, which is one of my favorite cities in the world, I have to tell you. They show that there is a drop in Phosphatidylserine in the aging brain. It’s in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. It’s not an Alzheimer’s study, it’s just a study showing it really is a cocktail of nutrients that are important for the aging brain to help support normal memory functions. And they’ve shown that as the brain ages, Phosphatidylserine levels naturally drop. This affects the health of the memory banks of the brain because it gets into the regions where the brain cells communicate which each other and it just helps restore that function.
So here’s a study which is pretty comforting. It’s from Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center in a journal called Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders, but it has to do with you and me because any of us can suffer loss of memory with age. For example we forget where we parked the car or we put the pasta in the water and the salt in the pot, but we forget to turn the stove on. It can happen. It’s not happening to me, thank God, but it can happen.
Over the course of 15 weeks they took 157 people who were older and starting to develop some memory issues. They gave them the supplement and also made sure they were either eating fish or taking fish oils. Verbal immediate recall significantly improved in less than three months. A tremendous improvement in memory and cognitive performance on different types of tests occurred as well. Word recall and the ability to learn and remember and the ability to copy complex figures all were improved simply by giving them this nutrient.
Here’s another one from The Israel Journal of Psychiatry and Related Sciences: for three months, they gave elderly patients who had typical cognitive decline and memory issues doses of Phosphatidylserine. It improved their brain function all around, their memory and their word recall.
There are at least five studies I have right here in my hand that confirm its truth. But here’s a different spin on it: if you’re aging, you want to put this back in your brain and you want to eat fish. Salmon is great for the brain, and provides an antioxidant called astaxanthin that shields it. It has choline, the B vitamin involved in brain function. It has magnesium and taurine to calm down the brain and create neurotransmitters and it also has fish oils. The missing component is the Phosphatidylserine. So if you’re eating salmon two to three times a week, that’s a treat for your brain. If you add the Phosphatidylserine, it’s an amazing treat for your brain.
Here’s another study. None of these studies are being taken in a vacuum here, by the way. This is from Angelo State University. I believe that’s in Waco, Texas. They took a group of their athletes in this college. They gave them Phosphatidylserine and within two weeks it had an impact on them. It supported the focus and brain function of these athletes in just 14 days. Their math scores improved. In just two weeks, it improved their math performance time by 20% and reduced a number of errors on the math test by 40% within two weeks. This is a pretty amazing result.
I have people coming in all the time and telling me, “My kid has a little trouble focusing; he’s not paying attention in school”. So I give them a cocktail of nutrients, two or three things that are really good for their focus. Phosphatidylserine is chief among those whether in high school, in college or for somebody who is going for their Master’s Degree online or they’re going back to medical school or law school. Whatever it is, if you need to perform and you need to focus, start taking this nutrient two weeks in advance and you’ll find it really has an impact.
Here’s another one, these are 60 kids who have trouble sitting still. Their focus is off and it’s stressing out their parents. And by the way, a very large study that was just done on 200 kids shows that it is extremely safe for little kids. That’s why the FDA has approved it for everyone. They gave 60 kids age 8 to 13 the supplement. They also made sure they were getting fish or fish oils. Their attention, their ability to sit still, their ability to watch and pay attention and listen improve notably within a short amount of time. Their scores on tests and paying attention all improved.
And here’s another study from the European Journal of Psychiatry. They gave Phosphatidylserine to 200 kids. Over a 30-week period, restlessness improved, impulsiveness improved, appropriate behavior improved, focus improved and additionally the parents were less stressed out. I think that’s the real telltale sign right there. So far we have Phosphatidylserine for memory and aging people. It’s a very crucial supplement for focus, certainly for older people, but even in young people like school kids.
Here’s the third one: stress. Now, older people tend to get a little sad, they tend to get stressed out, their memory suffers and their focus suffers. Not everyone, but most people. Here’s a study of 60 healthy men in their 50s. These were chronically stressed out and fatigued men. They supplemented them with this nutrient, which decreased their feelings of stress. Their salivary cortisol levels improved. That’s important.
And there are a lot of studies like that on psychological stress and feelings of stress. When you give this nutrient, people are less stressed out. You have to understand that it’s not something that makes you sleepy, but when you’re releasing stress hormones, you’re supposed to release hormones to get you out of the way of danger. If there’s an oncoming bus, you jump out of the way of the bus. But today, people are stressed out consistently. Maybe it’s for economic reasons or something is happening at home or they’re worried about their job or whatever it might be. At night you’re trying to go to sleep, but that stress hormone is saying, stay awake something bad is going to happen, but it’s really not because it’s being released inappropriately.
When you take it with your dinner, it clears out the effects of the stress hormones. If they tested your saliva, the stress hormones would be decreasing. It doesn’t make you sleep, it doesn’t knock you out. It makes you less stressed. You don’t feel the effects of stress. So when you take the Phosphatidylserine and then you go to bed a couple of hours later after dinner, you’re able to sleep and we’ve had very, very good results with that.
I’m going to read you some of the letters that our clients have written to us:
Here’s Martin in Brooklyn. He’s on been on this nutrient for a year. “Your Phosphatidylserine has improved my memory and my concentration. Being a budget manager and working with numbers all the time, it has helped a great deal.”
Here’s Bernita in Newark, New Jersey. She’s been on this nutrient for two months. “This product has greatly helped me with my ability to handle stress and feelings of anxiety.”
Here’s Martha in New York. She says, “You said that this would be was helpful at night for people with an excess of cortisol. I have a very high stress job and other symptoms of too much cortisol. So I started taking the Phosphatidylserine at night and now get to sleep quickly and comfortably. A very big thank you for that.”
Now, once again I take my Phosphatidylserine in the morning with my breakfast. I’m 58, I’m going to be 59 in two months, and the levels dropped with age, so I don’t want that to happen. I make my living with my brain. So I take it in the morning for my memory, but for people who are stressed out, I say take it at night with dinner. And once again, it doesn’t make you sleepy, it reduces stressful feelings and it’s used to fall asleep later on.
It also helps you keep your eye on the ball and it’s been a number of studies like this. I’m not going to go through them, but there’s many and I have stacks of them. Golfers play a better golf game when they take this nutrient. They’ve done it for golfers and for baseball players like pitchers. They’ve done it for elite, professional athletes. They’ve done it for people in triathlons, and all of them perform better when they take this supplement because it can literally help them keep their eye on the ball.
So it’s for memory functions, for focus, for concentration, for remembering, for all those executive functions such as planning a vacation, figuring out how much you have in the bank or doing math in your grocery store to figure out your change. Your ability to do all of these things are greatly improved. It also helps school kids pay attention. It helps their grades. It helps athletes keep their eye on the ball. It’s a very, very good supplement.
We use a very special technology with our Phosphatidylserine supplement. We’re known for very high quality technology and very high quality ingredients. We’re known for making a really good product. So we use the pharmaceutical grade, which is a Capsugel technology developed with Pfizer where they push the oxygen out, keeping the nutrient fresh. Then they shoot it into the capsule. There’s no saturated fat or heat used. And that capsule is made out of vegetables. It has a very tight weave in order to keep oxygen out. So the product remains extremely fresh and clean. That’s the kind of thing we do.
